Received August 17, at 9.57 p.m. Noumea, August 17. The New Zealand barque West Australian left Nosmea on the Bth with a load of guano from Surprise Island. She was totally wrecked on French Reef, 40 miles from Pott Island. Captain Barber and crew are aboard the steamer Saint Antoine, coming to Noumea. Melbourne, August 17.
The House sat for a few minutes. Mr Watson announced that to-morrow he would state his reasons for resigning. He moved the adjournment till to-morrow, when Mr Reid will announce his Ministry. Received August 18, at 0.50 a.m. Sydney, August 17. Sailed, at 2.30 p.m.—Moana for Wellington. Rumors are current of a probable Car-ruthers-Waddell coalition. Mr Waddell today wired the Mayor of Carcoar that there was no possibility of a coalition, and asked him to contradict the rumors.
