September 24. The Wellington Education Board being now under liabilities to contractors to the extent of £2546, and having no funds to meet, the responsibility, lias decided to apain wait on tits Minister ol Education in regard to its position. A Chinese named Jee Haw, aged 85 vears, was found in a statj of collapse in i'aranaki street- this morning with a wound in the head, and .died in the hospital at, night. It is not known how. lie was injured, but possibly it was by failing on the footpath after opium smoking. Tne City Council to-night- temporarily shelved the proposal to carry the electric tram lines through the Basm Reserve, and ntgatived a recommendation that' certain parts of .the town belt should be leased for building purposes. I'he annual conference of delegates of clubs affiliated to the New Zealand Caledonian .Societies Association was he?d tonight. The Stratford and Inglswood Societies were affiliated to the Association. A deputation from the League of Wheelmen waited on the Association to urge that the • Association should either join the League or hold cycle races at Societies' sports under its rules. Some delegates said the League'had so many officials tliat their presence became objectionable. The meeting appointed a sub-committee to report on the subject. It was decided that next championship meeting be held at Invercargill. Mr R. D. D. M'Lean, of Hawkc's Bay, was • re-elected President,' and Mr Shannon was re-appointed official Jiandicapper. AUCKLAND. September 24. At a meeting of the delegates to the Trades and Labor Council last evening the proceedings were of a most lively character. Notice of motion had been given by Mr Woods, on behalf of the Moulders' Union, to alter several of the rules. The most important alteration proposed was in the 1 rule relating- to the number of delegates to represent the unions, and that "no delegate, to this Council be other tiian an effective working member of the union affiliated to the Council." It was the discussion upon that clause that caused lively proceedings. On the question being finally put 24 voted for the motion and 18 against, the majority of the latter being members of the. socialist pary and non-unionists. On the President declaring the motion carried an uproar broke in force. The President's ruling was questioned several times, but on an appeal being made to the meeting the chair was always upheld, and the minority withdrew.

Mrs Westbrok-e, an elderly lady, met with a bad accident at Kingslaud. She attempted to get off a car before it stopped, and was thrown to the ground on her head. She had to be removed to the hospital, her condition being critical. She is suffering from concussion of the brain. TLMAEU. September 24. At the Supreme Court to-day the jury again disagreed in the case against Bi'rchley of causing bodily harm, and the Crown abandoned the case.
