At the (Magistrate's Court, yesterday, before Major Keddell, S.M., William Reynolds was summoned under the information of E. George, County ranger, for cattle trespass on the county road near Point Bush on the 13th -instant. Defendant pleaded not guilty. Mr Hamilton appeared for the plaintiff. After hearing the evidence of Edward George, county ranger, and C. Wilson, defendant was convicted of the offence and fined 205," with 9s costs. There were several civil cases, which were struck out on the non-appearance of parties, and one adjourned on the application of Sir Hamilton, on behalf of defendant. There were four renewals of old aire pensions granted, and one application declined. Yesterday afternoon there were a large number of people in Victoria Park to see the sports arranged for on the Thursday half-holiday. The cricket, hockey, .football, and other clubs combined to have a series of sports an'd games on that. day. The weather was rather cloudy, and the grass wet- after a damp forenoon for the pleasure of the spectators, but the afternoon was sufficiently favorable to a good display of football, hockey, and other games. A large number of those engaged in play were dressed in various colored and figured costumes, several being in female dresses, which, in the course of play, caused many "amusing and ludicrous scenes. The strains of the brass band and pip© music enlivened the proceedings, and a very successful and. pleasant holiday series of amusements was carried out'.
