High Weight Handicap.—Argentine 1, Vanlock 2, Benevenuto 3. Betting : 15 to 1 Argentine. Won by half a length. Time, lmin lSjSec. ' Members' Handicap.—Mark 1, Raeburn 2, P.K. 3. Betting : 12 to 1 Mark. Won by a head. Time, 2min 2|sec. Steeplechase.—Kaffir 1, Grafter 2, Blackthorn 3. Betting: 6to 1 Kaffir. Won by five lengths. Time, 7min 12sec. Waverley Handicap.—Fanfare 1, Barmidi 2, Devilment 3. Betting : 4 .to 1 Patronus, 6' to 1 Fanfare. Won by six lengths. Time, 3min lO^sec. Randwick Plate.—Lord Cardigan 1, Wakeful 2, Postillion 3. Also ran : -Sir Leonard and Victory. Betting :sto 4 against Wakeful, 3 to 1 Lord Cardigan. Wakeful led until well in the straight ,where Lord Cardigan joined issue, and the -latter drawing, away, won by six lengths. Time, 4mi« 57Asec.
Final Handicap.—Scots Guard 1, Palmist 2, Long Tom 3. Betting: 20 to 1 Scots Guard. Won -easily. Time, 2min lS^sec.
AVONDALE RACES.
By Telegraph. Auckland, Sept-ember 19. The Avondale Jockey Club's spring meeting commenced this afternoon. The weather was fine, but dull and threatening, and the attendance good. During the afternoon the sum of £5712 was passed through the totalisator. The following are the results:—
Maiden Plate Handicap, 6 furlongs.— Lavadel 1, Ake Ake 2, Leo Delaval 3. Scratched : Coma and Hillflower. Won by a length. Time, lmin 20 l-sth sec. Dividends, £7 12s and £3 Is. First Handicap Hurdles, 2 miles. —Haydn 1, Time 2, Straybird 3. Scratched: Hylas. Won easily by seven lengths. Time, 3min 50 3-sth"sec Dividends, £1 14s and £1 9s.
Avondale Stakes, 4 furlongs.—Muthema 1, Beau Seat-on 2, Kilmarnock 3. Scratched : Goldstone, Rose Seaton, Gweniad, Taipuwai and Sapper. Won by a length and a-half. Time, 53 3-sth sec. Dividend, £8 4s and £1 16s. Avondale Cup, 2,, Putty 3. All started. Won by; a good length." Time, 2min ISsec. . Dividends, £5 7s and £5 lis.
