WAIMATE NOTES
1 (From Our Chvn Correspondent.) At tlio Police Court yesterday, before Messrs Colt.man and Petit, J.r.'s, a young man, charged with obstructing the police in the execution of duty on the 12th instant by holding a man whom the police were arresting for disorderly conduct; pleaded guilty, and said ha tried to take the man home. Pined 20s and costs 7s. Two youths were charged under the Police Offences Act with causing annoyance to a householder at Painstown by wantonly knocking with, a stone at the door. Defendants pleaded guilty, and were cautioned and discharged. A lad was charged with stealing a young uiiplnnted plum tree o» the 10th instant from the- garden of Arthur Robinson, of Painstown. Mr Hamilton appeared for accused, and said the boy acknowledged taking the tixw but had no fraudulent. intent, the tree plant was inside, the boundary fence on Robinson's garden, and accused "thought it. hnd been thrown aside as of no value. The tree had since been returned to the owner. The Bench cautioned and discharged accused. Mr John. Freeman, after a few months! trip to New South Wales, returned to Waimate on Thursday last, 'bringing with him a valuable stud horse, and mare.
In consequence of the Books' Committee reporting a considerable leakage in the' number of books in the librarv\ a. special meeting, was held oh Wednesday, at which it was resolved."that all the books now-in. circulation be called in by the 30th instant, with the view of ascertaining, if possible, in whose hands.the books unaccounted for may be, and also ■ that injured and overdetained books be dealt with by the Committee in. future. .
