WELLINGTON. September 18. At the sitting of the Divorce Court this afternoon applications were granted for dissolution of marriage brought by Minnie Barrie (petitioner) against James Barrie 'respondent), and George Webster (petitioner) against Mary W«bster (respondent). Though Mr Justice Chapman takes over th.e Presidency of the Arbitration Court, it has not been settled whether he will sit m that capacity at the sitting of the Court which opens in, Wellington next week. Mr Justice Cooper will take on the duties of a puisne judge in Wellington, and Mr Justice Edwards will succeed Mr. Justice Conolly on the Auckland circuit. DUNEDIN. September 18. The 'directors of. the Milburn Lime and Cement Company have declared a dividend of 74 per cent. The directors of., the Port Chalmers Gas Company, despite, a. reduction in the price and the. closing of the hotel oars, are able to recommend a- dividend of per cent, for the year. ■ For. the Champagne Stakes of 1905 the D. J.C. have received 66 nominations.
The Dunedin Competitions Society have received over 750 entries for_the competition in October, exclusive of the choir competition. • CHRIST CHURCH. September 18. Mr Arnold, M.H.R., addressed, a large meeting of Christchurcli bootmakers this evening in regard to the recent- conference in Wellington. A motion, was passed, on belialf of the Christchurcli branch of the Bootmakers' Union, thanking Messrs Arnold, Aggers, and Cooper, and expressing approval "of the agreement.

September 18. The Governor arrived in Auckland today. His Excellency intends to return to "Wellington on "Monday. The body of a gum-digger, named William Gamble, who lwd been missing from his home at Kotu, near . Darga'ville, since the 9th jjjst., was found in the Kaihu creek.
ASHBURTON. Sept-ember. 18. The case against Dineen, lessee of the Railway freshment rooms for alleged sale of liquor on the sth inst.,. and with keeping liquor for sale,'was heard before Mr Wray, S.M., to-day. The Magistrate, in dismissing both informations, said there was no. direct evidence that a sale had taken place. The stock which, was found on the premises, and which was the Temains of the stock in hand when the license was"taken away on June 30th, was not of a- kind likely to be kept for sly .grog-selling. The whisky looked suspicious, but defendant appeared to have plenty of friends and that was evidently why he kept it on the premises. The Magistrate added : "I also think something' should be' done by the authorities towards the prevention of liquor going into premises of this sort." FEILDING. •September 18. On Friday the coroner held an inquiry into the recent fire at the Wesleyan Church. The jury returned a verdict of arson by some person unknown. NAPIER. ■September 18. An important business transaction was completed to-day, when the recently formed Hawke's Bay Motor Company purchased the bus, coaching and livery stables business of Mr S. Rymer, who has for 36 years been running coaches in this -district. The Company now controls all the town and suburban 'bus traffic in addition to several lines of coaches. The price paid in this last deal is said to be about £IO,OOO. iKEW PLYMOUTH. •September 18. The Mount Egmont Lodge of Freemasons, celebrated their "jubilee by a large gathering last night, the Grand Master of the Wellington district and officers attending. An application was before the Harbor Board to-day from the New Zealand Oil Wells Proprietary Company"of Adelaide petroleum Doring rights at Moturoa. THAMES. ( September 18. ~ Phenomenal _ catches of fish, principally schriapper, have been made in the Hauraki Gulf by Thames : fishermen. One boat re- | ports 150 dozen, another 160 dozen, and a third had a record of 240 dozen splendid fish, mostly caught at new beefs, which have greatly improved since trawling operations ceased. -
The boring scheme to which public companies subscribed liberally, and to which the Government gave a substantial subsidv, is now well under way. The first bore is down 200 ; feet in splendid county.' The second boring, machine will arrive m the course of a few -days.
