September 17. The Earle divorce case was continued this morning, respondent being further -crossexamined. She stated that- when she was. going to have a second child her husband said, "You had better go to the old doctor and see if he can give you something to stop it." No further evidence was called. Mr Morison, counsel for the defence, _ said adultery on April 6th and 7th with Noble was admitted, but there was not one tittle of evidence of subsequent adultery. He spoke in scathing terms of the conduct of the co-respondsnt, and claimed tliat the respondent was the victim of two men; one was her husband, who had failed in his duty to her as his wife, and the otner was the corespondent. The address was unfinished. An outbreak of anthrax occurred at Campbell's farm at Kaupokonui, Taranaki district, where three cows succumbed to tne disease. Mr Hogben replied that Committees have the option of employing a smaller staff and paying increased salaries under the scale. TBXARIT. September 17. The match Auckland v. South Canterbury was played at. Temufca yesterday under adverse conditions, rain failing all the time the match was on. The ground was very sloppy and the play, considering the condition of the ground, very fast, the Aucklanders handling the greasy bail splendidly. The visiting forwards proved too heavy for the local men. who had hard luck in throwing three good chances of scoring away by too hard kicking when near their opponents' line. The game ended in a chcided victory for Auckland bv 10 points to nil.

HAWERA. September 17. The Borough Council last evening accepted the tender of Xewton and Youlson, at £2SS7 10s for drainage extension works. The highest tender was £4639 15s.
