SAD BOATING FATALITY.

By Telegraph. Invercargill, January 8. A fatal boating accident, by which three lives were lost, happened at Riverton today. Two young men—Fred Nash (a painter), and Fred. Parßtt (salesman at the D.1.C., Dunedin), and the son of a Biverton draper—were, out in a. sailing boat between the bridge and the bar, having with them Ethel Ross and Janet Kelly, young girls from Invercargill. While trying to unship the mast some confusion arose, and the boat turned over, the girls and Parfitt being drowned. Nash got ashore, but is yet unable to make a statement of the accident. Miss Ross was a fine young woman of about 18 years of age. She was the daughter of Robert Ross, well known in cricketing circles, and gave pro mise of equalling her mother, who is one of InvercargiH's popular performers as a vocalist. Miss Kelly is a daughter of MiGeorge Kelly, foreman of the new railway bridge. i. lie- family resides in Invercargill, but last week went to Riverton for a month. Miss Boss was .visiting with them. The affair caused a. painful sensation here and at Riverton.
