WRECK OF A STEAMER.
By Telcirraph. New Plymouth. January 6. The Northern -Sioain Slii]> Company do not insure their vessels, so that the loss ol the Gairloch to them is a total one. I'll" value is about £12.000. but she could not be replaced bv so serviceable a vessel for that sum. This is the tiv.st vessel the Company has lo.st through being wrecked. Accident* have happened, but there have been no total looses. The Company can also boast that not a. life has been lost through accidents to their vessels. ■Mr' Charles Ranson. manager of the Northern Steam Ship Company, left for New Plymouth to-day. and thence will go to the. scene of the wreck to see what can be done in the way of salvage.
