WRECK OF A STEAMER.

By Telegraph. Auckland, January 6. The Northern Steamship Company is advised that the -steamer Gairloch was wrecked near New Plymouth at nine o'clock this morning. No lives were lost. ■The Gairloch was wrecked at two o'clock this morning at Okura on the voyage from Onehunga to Kawhia. Raglan, and Wanganui. Captain Austin is proceeding to the wreck with the dredge Thomas King to try and save anything possible. The sea- is smooth. The Gairloch's cargo includes —For Opunake, 308 bags of sugar; for Wanganui, 2891 bags and 20 sacks of sugar, 10,400 feet of sawn timber, and sundries. The principal shippers are the Kauri timber Company and die Colonial Sugar Company. New Plymouth, January 6.

It is believed that she is a total wreck. The crew are all safe. They pulled in a boat to the breakwater. The* Harbor Board's dredge has gone to the scene of the wreck. The night was very thick. The Gairloch left Onehunga on Saturday for Raglan and Kawhia, leaving the latter port at 2 p.m. on Monday for Opunake and Wanganui. She had 90 "tons of cargo, but no passengers. Her crew number 20.
