PALMERSTON NOTES
(From onr Own Correspondent.) The lecture given last evening in the Town Hall by Trooper Waldie, of JDanedin. in aid of tie M'D«ugall fund was a great success, and the takings win materially alignment the fnnd. the Hall being crowded to the doors. Trooper Waldie gave a verv interesting anil graphic acconnt of the doings of the Contingent in South Africa, and kept the audience interested whilst occupying the stice. He also gave some splendid limelight views of scenes ;>,*:d places they had been through and "f His prison life." the views having been t;iken by himself. He was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his interesting lecture and kindness in triving the same free of cast. TV Mavor iMr Gow) presided. A he.i'w son til-west gale was experienced here last'nijht. or rather early this niorninff. and has caused considerable damage throughout the district, roofs and chimneys of dwellings, and even stacks of cram, having been blown clean away. The full extent of the damage is not yet known.
