A French Vendetta.
The wild justice of revenge, otherwise the vendetta, peculiar to southern nations, has just been vividly illustrated at Nice. In September last a young girl named lilvire I3onas3u, or Bonaasi, killed a man named Giraudo, her lover. Among the Nicois killing does not. al way a mean murder. So that, vhen came before the jury they were prevailed npon by the eloquence of her advocate to acquit her. In this way the tri 1 was a cause celebrs in > ice, where fhe * • rime passionel" is unhappily of frequent ccurrence. After her acquittal, as Bonas>u was l aving the court, she was stabbed by a man. He wa3 arrested, and proved to be the brother of the girl's lover. He is 27 years of age, a married man, with one child. On being questioned, he eaid that as soon as the verdict was given he bought a knife, and returned to the court, stabbing Elvire. ihe girl was taken to the hospital, and was found to have received a severe wound. The knife entered as far aa the har.dle, but fortunately co vital organ had been touched, and she may live. The friends of the two brothers, knowing this, and with the thirst for vengeance strong upon them, made a determined attempt to enter the hospital where Bonassu is lying in order to complete the crime.
