North Otago Jockey Club.

(The meeting called this afternoon to consider the advisability of continuing the meetings of the above Club was attended by Messrs Jasper Nichols (chair), A. W. Gillies, Henderson, Proctor, Lee, Wise, Islip, Buckley, Potter, Liken, Harvey, Sewell, Leslie, Snmpter, Kettelwell, Cr others, O'Brien, Fitzgerald, Creagh, and Hislop (secretary). The secretary read the advertisement calling the meeting. The Chairman stated that the North Otago Jockey Club being in a bad financial state at the last meeting of Committee it was resolved not to hold the nsaal autumn meeting, bat to collect the available funds and call np the stewards' guarantees. He understood that this meeting had been called to consider proposals from outidera to carry on the Clnb.

Mr Potter stated that Mr M'ilaater had spoken to him on the subject of the meeting, saying it waa a pity to let it drop, and suggesting that a meeting be called to consider matters. He stated that the country members could come in now at any time. He himself had been spoken to by several people, who all expressed regret at the meeting lapsing. He had then spoken to tho secretary, and the reanlt waa the present meeting. Mr Wise asked what the deficiency waa on the last meeting, exclusive of members' tickets, and the secretary replied that it was about L7O.

Mr Wise stated that he had got promises of assistance and donations which he would undertake to make np to at least LIS. He would also start the privileges at auction at L 5 more than they fetched last year. Mr Potter stated that Messrs Mason and Roberts had offered to work the totalisator for one meeting free of all charge. Mr Christie had also offered to sell the privileges free of charge. Some discussion ensued as to the permit, the opinion being generally expressed that, if the meeting lapsed, the permit woold be lost altogether.

The Chairman stated that he had Tinderstood at the iaat general meeting thai the Club was to be wound np. Mr Wise's offer waa very good, bat he woald like to know what others were prepared to do. Offers an! donations, in cash and kind equivalent to L 72, were made in the room. •The chairman stated that be thought the best plan would now be to lay the offers at once before the committee, and see what they thought. It was decided to call the committee together on Saturday next, at 2.30. A sab-committee was appointed to canvass for subscriptions.
