WAITAKI HIGH SCHOOL PAST AND PRESENT V. OAMABU.

The above match was played yesterday afternoon In very unsettled weather, and a dull light. The School batted first, and the wickets fell fast nntil two of the present schoolboys made a good stand at the eleventh hour. Both F. Jones and W. Thomson played good cricket, and the former scored six at one fell stroke by lifting a half-volley from Ongley clean over the far fence. Hewat was in particularly good form with the ball, being practically unplayable. The Clnb did not make a very encouraging start, but when Murray and Tennent got together they made things merry for a time, though luck favored both batsmen occasionally. C. Holmes bowled most successfully for his side, and his brother although frequently beating the batsmen had the misfortune to also " beat" the wickets. The fielding of both sides was for the most part miserable and disheartening to the bowler. It was almost miraculous how, even with 14 men in the field, the ball found its way off to scorable distance. The match ended fa a draw, but, aa will be seen from the appended details, the Club scored a moral victory:— WAITAKI HIGH SCHOOL. M. S. Holmes, b M'Donald Waddell, c Boss, b M'Donald W.
