The annual match between teams representing the Town and Country took place at the TJoyal Hotel, on Thursday night, when 26 " brethren of the brod" faced each other to do battle for tbeir respective sides. Some very keen contests were witnessed at several of the boards. The result of the match was rather a surprise to the Town team, who won by 20 games to 17, 11 games bei g drawn. Scores : TOWN. During the evening a number of loyal and patriotic toasts were honored, and songa were given by Messrs D. Rodger, T. Elliott, J. M'Jennett, J. M'Keczie, S. Crook, and J. M'Combie. A very enjoyable evening was brought to a close by the singing of " Auld Lang Syne." BOREHAM BROS. AT OTEPOPO. A novelty in the way of simultaneous play was given at Otepopo on the 26th nit., Trhen Messrs J. A and Jacob Borebam undertook to play six boards, each to play alternate moves. J. A. occupied his Bpare time at another seven boards. The brothers Dlayed aeainst Messrs T. Paterson. E. Ure, W. Forbes, W M'Donald, A- Munro, and J. Forbes, with the resnlr of eight wins and one draw. Mr Munro at one time having a won game, the Borehams, recognising the object aimed at, succeeded in securing the draw. This very fine wine was bagged by the brothers—Black men on 1, 6. 13; k 18, 26. White men on 25. 21, 12 ;k 4. 11. Black (J. A.) to play *26 22. 11 15 Jake took 18 11, 25-18 ; J. A *6-9. then 12 8, 1-6, 83, 6-10, 3-8, 10 15. White havii g to move, the Borehams won the man ana the game. At the remaiaing seven boards J. A. won'seven games, and four were Messrs J. Sim, D. Gilchrist, A. Ross and J. Gilchrist drew their games. On the motion of Mr G Paterson (president of the OEepopo club) a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the visitors. Afterwards they were entertained at supper by Mr W. Robertson, and a pleasant hour was spent before leiving for home. MR BOREHAM AT ENFIELD. Mr J. A. Boreham met the Enfield players at Mr Tsdale's on the 27th ult., against Messrs. D. Isdale, T. Eiliot, M'Mullen, M'Kenzie, Rainforth, and Falconer, and scored 17 wins, 1 loss, and 2 draws. The draws were secured by Messrs Rainforth and Isdale, and the wiu by Mr M'Kenzie. After the play it was decided to wind up the club for the season, with the advice from the president that they should practise up well iu the recess and prepare for next season's team matches, when they would be able to give a better account of themselves. Mr Boreham received a hearty vote of thanks, and the proceedings terminated. HEMS. Mr Boreham wilt meet Awamoko in simultaneous play on Wednesday, sth inst., when a good muster of club members is requested.
