Otepopo Athenæum Bazaar.

(i-bom otr» own correspondent. ) The weather-god was evidently in an angry mood on Friday and Saturday last. Beautiful sumhine before and after, but constant rain during those days, was anything but encouraging to 'he Bazaar Everything, however, went with a good swing, and nothing could damp the ardour of those eng ged. At 2 o'clock on Friday afternoon the Rev. A. D. Thomson, ia an ajpropriate speech, p onounred the bazaar opened. Business wa? at orce proceeded with. The stalls were tastefully laid out on each side of ths building, and were presided over by - Voweraker, R. Frame. T. Henderson, and Paterson, assisted by Misses Beckinga ile, Hayes, Kirton, O'Cnnno", and A. and B. Patfrson. The refreshme' t tables were nnder the management of Mesdam-s Borwick and O'Connor, who were af ststed by Misses Fnlton, Grant, J. a»d A Quigley, and K and I. Young. One end ot the baildi g was taken up witb the produce stall and side shows. Ihe side entertainments comprised a galvanic battery, weighing machine, weight-guessing competition, draughts compe ition, ladiea' nai>driving exhibition, graphophone, and wild pig show. Mr White ieDt his galvanic battery, and generously took charge of it, assisted by Miss tfaogh. Mr E. F. Diehl dressed the Christmas tree in an artistic manner. On Saturday evening a short but entertaining concert programme was supplied by Mrs Frame, Misses Campbell, Hayes, Lefevre, K. and E. Ure, Uieh', and Macdonald. and Messrs Thornis, Morrison, Foweraker, Meikle, and Marshall. The accompaniments were played by Misees Paterson and Thomas | A farce, entitled "The Mosical Monomaniac," was amusingly presented by Mesirß R dge, "I iehl, Juhnston, Paterson, Ure, and Williams. After the Mr T. Paterson officiated at a Dutch aueti' n, and m-.de no end of amusement by his prompG sallies and quaint descrip inns. Where all worked so well it is unnecessary to iniividua'ise. The gross p r oceeds will total, I understand, to about .1 70. hub had the weather btea fine, a much larger amount would certainly cave been obtained. 'The best thanks of the Athenseum Committee are due to all those ladieß and gentlemen who so generous'y contributed, as well as to those who freely gave so much time and labor in order to make the bazaar a success.

I forgot to mention that the art union was drawn on Friday night however, wus not f -ruinate, as the bulk of the prizes went to Hampden, Kakanui, Maheno, and Totara.
