The morning was overcast and cold, and the wind militated slightly agatnst fast gallops. Lissadurn ran half a mile in 43iec. Heretic and C-irdamon traversed the first half mile at 51sec, taking oßaec over the next one, C-irdamon showing to most advantage. Promontory displayed good form over half a mile, and wound up in 53i?ec. Syerla galloped nine furlongs in 2oTia Oisec. negotiating the first four fnrlonas in 52-ec. Wayfarer was restricted to moderate pacing, and it looks ssif a screw were loose with the erstwhile favorite. Badge defeated Corinth in a half mils spin in 51&3ec. Picture, Almanac, Amberite, Cravat and Palliser eiecut* d strong working gallops in good style, the Sydney Darby winner moving beautifully. Catspw, who keeps on improving, negotiated a mile and a half excellently in 2min 58isec. Giuleon was of no assistance to The Chief towards the termination of a seven furlongs gallop, which occupied lmin 35Jsec. War God and C >cos were restricted to a stout mile, which was iccomphshed well. Patriot ran over Hisrule and Ashton in a mile, finished in lmin 39aec. Rosebery—a magnificentlooking horse, with an injared eye covered by a bandage, romped home from Carnage at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 34 sec. Received October 4, at 11 45 a.m. Flemtsgtos, Ojfcober 4. The best gallop this morning was executed by The Grafter, who silenced the pretensions of Woodlark by covering tiefirst two fariongs in 26-iec, the halfmile in 53? Ec, seven in lmin 32iec, nine furlongs in liain 593ec. This ifaa a tremendous gallop considering the ease with which it was done. Holster was further supported for the Caalfield Cup last nigh r , several thousands to 40 being taken. 1000 to 60 was accepted about Reka for the same race. Merloolas is scratched for the Ciu!field Cap and Don John for the Melbourne Cup.
