The Otago Daily Times' Wellington correspondent telegraphs: " Two wellknown Otago millers who are in Wellington at the present time are negotiating with a view to the purchase of the Northern Boiler Mills at Auckland. They endeavored to see the Premier on Saturday on the subject. The mills belong to the Bank of New Zealand, and as the policy of the Government is to get rid of such an asset, the negotiations may come to something. I understand a good offer has been made." Sergeant-major Haslam, of Auckland, has been awarded a silver medal and an annuity of LlO, dating from 4th May, 1897 (inclusive), for long and highly meritorious services in the New Zealand war, 1846 It is 28 years since he applied for it. An awfully sudden death took place recently at a prayer meeting being conducted at Oollingwood, Melbourne. Mr Robert Harrison, a well-known manufacturer of cordials, offered up an earnest prayer. A peculiar rattle In his voice was noticed by some of the listeners, and just as Mr Harrison concluded his prayer, Invoking a Divine blessing on his congregation, he threw np his hands and fell into a seat.
