May 18 Captain Oldershaw, Secretary of the Federated Rifl.3 Association of Australia, has informed Major Sonamerville that he has arranged with the New South Wales Association to fire off the Federal Match at Sydney, in November next, and in addition to the Federal Match there is the Australian Cup, a teams match, open to New Zealand, the first prize being LBo a Major Sommerville thinks that a good team can be sent over to Sydney, and intends to approach the Government asking for assistance towards the passage of the men forming tho team. The names of those who can join the team are requested by Major Sommerville, and he suggests that Major Collins, of Wellington, treasurer of the New Zealand Association, should go in command, with Lieut. Kirk a3 adjutant.

TIMARU. May 18. Mr F. R. FlatmaD, member for Geral dine, addressed his constituents at Temnka last niaht. He spoke mainly in defence of the Government. He strongly approved of old age pensions. T. Palmer, farmer, Temnka, eccentric for many years, two or three times examined for lunacy, blew his brains out in his own house l3st night. His family are all away.
