Cricket.
BANKS, INSURANCE, AND LAW v. THE CLUB. The above match was played on Saturday afternoon, and resulted in a win for the Club on the first innings. by 24 runs. The weather was miserably bleak, and not at all pleasant for cricket, which no doubt will account for the meagre muster of players. Notwithstanding these drawbacks a good game ensued between the rival teams, and, as the scores show, there was not much difference in point of strength. The Banks, Insurance, etc. went in first, and H. King was the only player who made anything like a show. In their first attempt the Club, though five of their wickets were down for 10 runs, managed to put up 64 before the other two fell, W. Jones and W. M'Donald hitting freely. The losers second innings produced 67 runs, towards which C. Jones, Ongley, and M. Roxby contributed the lion's share. The first named played really good cricket and made one or two really fine strokes. At the call of time the Club had scored 14 runs for the loss of three wickets. The fielding, despite the unfavorable weather, was beyond cavil, and only one chance was refused.
