(Delayed through interruption in the Malta Cables.) Received March 26, at 9.49 a.m. London, March 23.
At the Transvaal Raid Inquiry, Mr Schreiner, ex Attorney-General of Cape Colony, generally supported the Transvaal Government.
In reply to Mr Chamberlain, he admitted that President Kruger had violated the Convention of 1884 in connection with the closing of drifts on the Yaal River in 1895, the concessions to the Netherlands Railway Company, and the granting of a monopoly for the sale of dycamite. He deprecated insistence by a minority in Capo Colony for a strong Imperial policy. Pretoria, March 24.
The agreement between the Transvaal and Orange Free State provides for the mutual defence of the two Republics.
