The Primate has replied in the press to the inquiry whether he intended to allow himself to be nominated to the Federal Convention election by an emphatic negative, adding that he was surprised at the inquiry being made. Melbourne, -January 17. Brady's fiancee states that he told her on the day of the murder that he had arranged to meet Phillips at the shop at night to receive a portion of the money alleged to have been embezzled by the latter, Brady having agreed not to prosecute if it was refunded. It is suggested that the money was not forthcoming, and the crime was the outcome of Brady's threat to press the prosecution. Adelaide, January 17. Borcbgrevinck states that as result of his appeal European scientific societies have already raised half the sum necessary to equip an Antarctic expedition. He confidently looks to Australia to supply the remainder.
