THE LICENSING OF HAWKERS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —There is an advertisement in this morning's Times reminding owners of vehicles and holders of drivers' licenses that unless they cash up that after the 30th instant the by-law will be strictly enforced against any person found plying for hire without a license. Is it true that hawkers are exempt from license in Oamaru ? If not, why is it that butchers, bakers, grocers, and drapers are allowed to hawk town and country without a license ? I think it is time that our city fathers should look into this matter and cause them to contribute their share for the privilege.—lam, etc., John Lyle.
