The Ministers of Agriculture from New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria will confer at the end of the month on the question of adopting a scheme of Government inspection of perishable articles for export, particularly food products, with a view ot establishing what will practically be an Australian trade mark. I The report on the distilleries shows a generally-increased output. The stock of spirits on January Ist exceeded that of the previous year by 79,000 gallons. Shipments of brandy to the United Kingdom increased by 15,000 gallons. The export to New Zealand increased by 802 gallons. The total export of wine amounted to 318,000 gallons. 1,372.500 gallons of beer were brewed. Received April 15, at 11.10 a.m. Sydn~ey, April 15. Recent arrivals report heavy weather in the Tasman Sea. It is particularly rough between Melbourne and she Bluff. During the voyage of the Norwegian barque Sc. Oarm, from Delagoaßay, fever broke out. A sailor and the third mate died, and four of the crew were taken to the hospital on her arrival. The Borough Council will expend LIO,OOO in extending electric light to private consumers. Arrived —Wakatipu from Wellington. Perth, April 15. The natives have been troublesome lately in the Murcliison District. Several who were arrested escaped and a party started in pursuit with a black tracker. The latter went ahead, and was afterwards found with his skull split open and his body a mass of wounds.
The Federal Bill will be introduced next session.
