Presentation.

At the Courthouse this morning there was a large gathering of the Bench of Justices, members of the legal fraternity and residents of the town, on the occasion of the presentation of an address to Mr Mr G. Filleu 1 , who is severing his connection with the Magistrate's Court. Mr Newton, senior member of the bar, in making the presentation, said that he had been requested by the members of the local bar, the Bench of Justices, and several old residents, to present Mr Filleul with an illuminated address, as a token of the esteem in which he was held and of appreciation for his faithful services during a long course of years. The sentiments they felt were well expressed in the address, which he would content himself with reading.

The address ran as follows : To William Gabriel Filleul, Esq. Dear Sir, We, the undersigned members of the legal profession, Justices of the Peace, and residents in the Oamara district, on the occasion of your resignation of the offices of Clerk to the District and Magistrate's Courts here, which you have held for years, take this opportunity of expressing the high estimation in which we hold you, and our admiration and respect for the manner in which you have so faithfully, intelligently, and courteously discharged your duties. We trust you may continue long to live among us, and to enjoy the repose and rest which you have so well earned. With every best wish for your happiness and that of those dear to you, we are, dear sir, [The testimonial was here signed by a'l the members of the Bar, several Justices of the Peace, and a number of citizens.] Mr Filleul returned thanks for the kind expressions of the bar and others. He had endeavored always to do his duty and he was glad to learn that his efforts had been appreciated. He thanked the members of the bar for their help which had been readily accorded him when required and could only bespeak the same aid for his successor. He again thanked them heartily for their kindness.
