Oamaru Presbytery.
A meeting of the Oamaru Presbytery was held in St. Paul's session room yesterday morning- There were present the Rev. Messrs Nichol, Wright, Hay, Steven, Thomson, Clarke, and Standring, and Messrs Morton, Marwick, and Murdoch. The retiring Moderator (Mr Nichol) vacated the chair for Mr Wright, who was appointed Moderator for the next six months. The remit of the Synod anent deceased wife's sister's marriage was considered. It was pointed out that such a marriage was contrary to the Confession of Faith. The Presbytery decided that it be J eft an open question as to whether Ministers should celebrate such marriages. The Aged and Infirm Ministers' Fund new regulations, as submitted by the Committee of the Synod, were approved with but slight p.mendments. A remit touching the employment of Home missionaries was also adopted. For the Standing Committees of the Synod Messre Clark and Hay were appointed to the Church Extension, and Messrs Standring and Nichol to that of the State.of Reliyion. The examinations of Mr P. B. Fraser were sustained as far as they were undertaken, and the Presbytery is to meet on the 9th of October in St. Paul's Church, to receive the report of other examinations of the same candidate, and if Mr Fraser passes, application will be made to the Synod for his license. The next quarterly meeting of the Presbytery was fixed to be held at Columba Church on the second Wednesday in December, at 11.30 a.m.
