AUSTRALIAN RACING. (per united press association.) Received August 11, at 9.30 p.m. M elbourne, August 10. At the V.A.T.C. winter meeting the chief event was the Grand National Steeplechase, which resulted as follows : Daimio (Barbour) 1 Romsdale (Allan) 2 Geometry (Edge) 3 Fifteen started. Betting: 2 to 1 against Daimio, 6 to 1 Baltoro, 10 to 1 Joi and Highborn, 16 to 1 Geometry, from 12 to 20 to 1 the others. Geometry was the first horse to break the line, but almost immediatly Highborn rushed to the front, and the latter, with Dart and Knebsworth, held a prominent! position to the straight, where the favorite, who had been fencing faultlessly, moved up. Daimio had little difficulty in cutting down the leaders, and stalling off a fast run by Romsdale, won easily by two lengths ; Geometry a length and a half behind the second horse. Highborn, Campaspe, and Songster were the only others to finish, the remainder falling, but fortunately none of the jockeys wero injured. Baltoro pulled up lame. Time, Smin 16sec, which is the rooord for four miles.
