August 10. lb has been officially announced that stringont orders have been issued by the Chinese Government to prevent further outrages, and 15,000 soldiers have been despatched to protect missionaries in Kuching and arrest the murderers. Raporte from Washington state that Rear-Admiral C. C. Carpenter, of the American warship Baltimore, the flagship oa the Asiatic station, has ordered the Petrol, with a thousand marines, picked from the United States warships stationed in, the Chinese warships, wtth GatUng guns, to proceed to Ping Yang to protect missionaries and European residents in Shanghai. A message from British people declares that Lord Salisbury's demands are utterly madeipjate, and delay w dangerous. The Mission Societies have combined and will wait as a deputation on the Prumier demanding that prompt action be taken to prevent a repetition of the massacre in China.
Received August I-, at 11.40 a.m. Srt>TEf, August 12. Memorial services were held in several churches yesterday in memory of the missionaries killed in China.
