The Duke of Devonshire declares that the Unionists are satisfied that the elements of mischief by the present House of Commons are crippled and destroyed, and further that the Government is incapable of achieving its object. Tn an address to the Primrose League the Marquis of Salisburysaid that mooeyed men would not invest, fearing that socialist measures would render capital unsafe, and he did not anticipate any revival in trade until confidence was restored. , He declared that "a black and impassable stream of distrust divides the sullen ranks of the half-starved " workers from the benefits of capital. Mr M'MHlan, ex-Colonial Treasurer of New South Wales, who has) been making inquiries as to the extension of produce markets, advises the colony to centre its energies on the British market, and not to yield to a strugglewith its rivals on the Continent, where the markets are virtually closed. At the trial of Oscar Wilde the evidence adduced, which is identical with that of the former trial, remained unshaken.
