The year that has just passed away has, in ? * many respects, been a remarkable one, and many important events have happened during the past 12 months. While we in New Zealand cannot lay claim to having had a year that has seen many booms we can safely say that in many respects it has not been a bad one. While other lands have been in the throes of battle, both of a civil and military kind, we have gone on in " The even tenor of our way," and let us sincerely hope that we shall continue to do so. Speaking personally, we can sincerely say that, taking everything into consideration, wc have had a remarkably successful year, and now tender our heartfelt thanks to those who li ive patronised our establishment during the past year, and we hope the benefit derived between ourselves and our patrons has been mutual. We enter into a new year with renewed hope and fresh vigor, and we feel confident that with careful navigation we shall sail along with the fresh breeze of prosperity. While asking all those ladies and gentlemen who have honored us with their patronage in times past to renew their confidences in us, we can assure them, that we on our part will leave nothing undone to merit the same.
