There are some hopes of floating the pteamer Colonist, which grounded, on the Newcastle bar, but it -will greatly depend on the weather keeping fine. Melbourne, September 10. The election campaign is vigorously proceeding. No less than 20 members of the legal profession are already announced as candidates, and proceedings in the law courts are somewhat embarrassed owing to their absence canvassing. One result of the visit of the trade delegates to the eastern districts is that a steamer has left for.Madras and Calcutta with a quantity of direct orders for the colonies, and products including consignments of frozen meat from New South Wales, Queensland and New Zealand. Perth, September 10. The steamer Eddystone, well known in the intercolonial trade, has gone ashore at Cossack, the principal port of the north district, some eight miles north of Roeburn. The vessel is reported to be full of water, but no particulars are to hand respecting the crew. The Eddystone is insured for L 16,500, the risk being spread over most of the local offices.
