Admiral Colomb, in a letter to the Times, says the British taxpayer will never undertake the increased obligation of naval protection for Canadian and Australian sea trade, while the colonies virtually pay nothing. Mr T. Shaw, who succeeds Mr Asher as Solicitor-General for Scotland, was electel for Hawick burghs by a majority of 647. It is estimated that the visible supply of American wheat is 90,100,000 bushels. Ottawa, March 28. The new Canadian tariff will be bene- , ficial to the trade of Great Britain. Ad I valorem duties are substituted for mixed specific and al valorem duties. The tariff extends the concession accorded the United States to England and the colonies.
