Oamaru Amateur Athletic Club.

The annual general meeting of the above Club was held in the chessroom of the Athenseum last night. There was a good attendance of members, and the chair was occupied by Dr Garland. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The annual report was read by the Secretary, as follows : Your Committee, in presenting to you the second annual report, have to congratulate the members on the success of the Club for the past year. The membership still remains as before, the nnmber of memljers on the roll being 107, an increase of about seven on the previous year, and judging from the popularity of the Club this number is not likely to decrease, although it is expected that owing to the formation of the Kurow Club a number of members who reside in the Kurow district will not become members of the Oamaru Club this year. However, this will be in another way remedied, as a number of new members will be added to the roll. Finally the club has made a start in the right direction, and from a credit balance of LI 6 for the previous year, it has increased to something like L 27 notwithstanding that the annual sports meeting was held in unfavorable weather. However, owing to the generosity of the ladies and the officers of the Club the balance has remained in a very satisfactory condition. The thanks of the Club are due to the ladies for providing the prizes for the steeplechase, and Mr John M'Lean (the patron), the Hon. H. J. Miller, Drs de I-autour and Garland, and Messrs ChaSey, Lintott, and Young, who generously gave donations to the funds. The rides of the Club were revised, and new rule books can be obtained from the secretary. Dr de Lautour was elected a vice-president of the New Zealand Association, and Messrs A. S. Otterson and \V. B. Eyre were appointed the Club's delegates for the year to attend the Association meetings at. Christchurch, and the thanks of the Club are also due to them for the able manner in which they have attended to their duties, and it is with regret that Mr Eyre's resignation was received, owing to pressure of business. Mr E. R. Webbe has been appointed in his place. The Club has sustained a loss in the removal of Mr Clowes, the late treasurer, from the district, Mr Clowes having been associated with the Club since its inauguration, and had taken a great deal of trouble and interest in looking to its interests. Mr P. Mitchell was appointed treasurer in the interim. The Club's sports meeting was held on the 19th March last, and notwithstanding the very unfavorable weather were very succcssul, there being a large number of competitors for the different events. During the year several other kindred societies added amateur events to their programmes, notably the Caledonian Society of Oamaru, and the Cycling Club, and it is a pleasure to your Committee to have to state that both societies were pleased with the results, and the thanks of the O.A.A.C. are due to both associations for so kindly adding these events. The Kurow Amateur Club also held their first meeting, at which a number of the members of the O.A.A.C. competed, and were very successful, besides spending a very enjoyable day. In retiring, your Committee recommend that the next day's sports meeting be held on or about the 23rd March next. They also have to thank the members for their assistance in making the Club a success, and hope that the good feeling that has hitherto existed among the members will continue to exist. The report and balance-sheet were adopted on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr LeCren. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patrons, J. M'Lean, Esq. and the Hon. H. J. Miller ; President, Dr Garland ; Vice-Presidents, Messrs Grnmitt, ChafFey, and Harvey; Committee, Dr de Lautour, Messrs Roll, LeCren, Hewat, Patterson, Francis, Procter, and M'Bean. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Clowes for his past services as Treasurer to the Club. The meeting terminated with the usual compliment to the chair.
