INTERPROVINCIAL NEWS.

(by telegraph.) (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION".) WELLINGTON. October 9. At a meeting of the delegates representing the Association Football Clubs of Auckland, Wellington. Canterbury, and Otago, it was resolved to form an association to be known as the New Zealand Football Association. Leslie, Ross, and Henderson, of Wellington, were appointed a committee to draft rules. The immediate cause of the formation of the Association is the presenting of a silver shield for competition by Mr Brown, a whisky merchant of Gliisgow. Rogen and Co. are giving up their poultry farm at Karori. During their five and a half years of existence the firm have won over 1000 prizes.

TIMARU. October 9. Timaru has sustained a loss by the death of Mr Thomas O'Driscoll, proprietor of thc Hibernian Hotel. Deceased was highly respected, and noted for his charitable disposition. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, and one of its chief supporters here. His only daughter died in Sydney a few weeks since, and the loss preyed on his mind and a painful and fatal illness supervened.

DUNEDIN October 8. Thc Technical Classes Association brought their session to a close to-night by a conversazione and exhibition of work, scientific apparatus, models, etc. Speeches were given by Mr A. Burt (President), Sir R. Stout, Mr Pinkerton, M.H.R., and Mr James Allen. The Garrison Hall was crowded for the occasion. The exhibition is to be kept open for another two days. The Mayor has received intimation from the Minister for Public Works that work for 200 unemployed will be provided on the Otago Central in a few days, and the city and suburban members are asked to pick the men, giving preference to those married.

CHRISTCHURCH. October 8. Christ's College sports to-day were very well attended. The Governor was present, and distributed prizes to the winners. The Old Boys' Challenge Cup was won by T. J. Rolleston, with 15 points ; E. J. Murphy, 12 points, second. Rolleston won the cup given by old boys in the North Island for the quarter-mile race. D. T. Watson, with two yards handicap, won the Old Boys' Race of 200 yards.

AUCKLAND. October 9. Arrived, at S.3o—Mariposa, from San Francisco, via Honolulu and Apia, after a very" fine-weather passage of 19 days 6 hours. Passengers for New Zealand : Messrs Chambers, O'Hara (and wife). Williamson (wife and children). Buer, Donaldson (wife and child), Smith (and wife), Nicholls, Purvis, Theet, Sutherland (and wife), and 17 steerage. Arrived—Ship Waitangi, Sinclair, from London ;94 days out. In the Southern Ocean, 011 September 17th, James Cox, boatswain, aged 37, was lost overboard and drowned, through falling from the main rail. A boat's crew searched for him unsuccessfully.

NAPIER. October 8. At the inaugural meeting of the Hawke's Bay Trotting Club, the principal event was won by a Maori horse named Ngatorangi, who paid a dividend of L 77.

MASTERTON. October 9. A distinct shock of earthquake was felt in Masterton about midnight. It is stated that there are fewer rabbits in Wairarapa North this season than there have been for five years past.
