A demonstration was yesterday gob up at New Plymouth partly in favor of Mr Bryce, but much more to help the declining Conservative cause. The people of New Plymouth received Mr Bryce with great enthusiasm —or some of them did, though the conservative agency through which the intelligence has reached lis does not tell us how many persons objected to this excuse for a political and anti - Government demonstration. However, Mr Bryce should be very much obliged to those who insisted on his being subjected to the same Parliamentary rules by which others are governed, for the event lias warmed the hearts of his friends towards him, and has produced a show of affectionate regard and political appreciation that would otherwise never have been awakened. Mr Bryce's act of resignation was the greatest service that he has performed for the colony, and it would be a pity to have the censure removed, if it would lead to the fading away of the aureola of sanctity that now surrounds him, and to his resumption of the functions of a second-rate political leader amongst ordinary men. With Mr Bryce's example before them, ought not the other Conservatives of the House to think it worth their while, by the exercise of impatience and intolerance, to bring about circumstances such as would enable them to resign with becoming dignity in a pet ? They would have the sympathy of their friends, and numerous economical demonstrations, and earn the everlasting thanks of the community.
