LAST NIGHT'S CABLEGRAMS.

(By Electric Telegraph—Copyright,) (per united press association. ) Received June 9, at 8 p.m.] London, June 8. The Directors of the Omnibus Companies have made a general offer to the men out on strike to concede their demands for 12 hours per day if they agreed to accept a sixpence reduction in wages. An exception is made in the case of drivers of road cars, no reduction being made in their wages, although they will not have to work more than 12 hours. The Directors state that this is the last offer they will make, and unless the men accept the terms they will declare a lock out. Pig iron fell to 45s (3d, but the market has now recovered somewhat, and the latest quotation is 47s 6d. H.R.H. the Prince of Wales has nominated Mr Stanley Wilson, who gave evidence in the baccarat case, as a member of the Marlborough Club. In the course of his reply in the baccarat case to-day, Sir Edward Clarke, Solicitor-General, declared that, after the evidence which had been taken, it was impossible, to remove Sir William Gordon Cumming's name from the army list without, also erasing the names of H.R.H. tlie Prince of Wales and General Owen Williams. This statement created immense sensation in Court. Counsel contended that Mr Stanley Wilson was originally mistaken in the construction he put upon the plaintiff's style of play, and yet he afterwards sought to entrap his guest. The accusation of adding counters was explained by the system of play pursued by Sir William, but the charge of withdrawing counters, which was not similarly explainable, had been abandoned. Sir Edward Clarke said it was impossible to understand the conduct of the Prince of Wales, Lord Coventry, arid Mr Stanley Wilson, in believing their comrade guilty of the charges made against him, and his (counsel s) own belief \vas that much of the evidence which could have been given in the plaintiff's favor had evidently been sacrificed in a desire to save the Prince of Wales from exposure. The latter remark elicited loud applause from the body of the Court. A considerable amount of the New South Wales conversion stock has been subscribed. The balance will remain open until January, Parleying is proceeding to secure the amount of the Queensland matured debentures at 90, and acceptable terms have been offered tenderers for the loan.
