Mr Seddon recently made an inspection of the relief works at the Bealey, where he found 74 of the '-'unemployed" at work, and well contented with their surroundmgs. The earnings of the best inen amongst these come to eight or nine shillings for each day that they are actually at work, and even the most indifferent workers earn 5s a day. The cost of living ranges from 6s a week the lowest, to 110 the highest.—Lyttelton Times.
