Resident Magistrate's Court.
THIS DAY. (Before Messrs Milne and Meek, J.P. s) ASSAtXT, John C. Black charged William Pyne with assaulting hini on the 10th inst. by striking him in the face with his fist. John C. Black saitl lie had impounded three horses belonging to defendant, who called at his house at night, and on plaintiff going to the door defendant said a few words, and, putting his knee to the door, | attempted to force it open, and, failing in ! this, he tried to pull plaintiff out by the I whiskers. Defendant said he had not | treated him fairly with regard to the im- ! pounding of the horses. He told defendant to go away when he came to the door. William Pyne said lie went to the house of plaintiff to ask about a roller that was on one of the impounded horses. He never laid a hand on plaintill. The door was only open about six inches, and the ! plaintiff told him to go away, and then I shut the door in his face. | Senreant O'Grady stated that Black came to hi:n and complained of Pyne's ; having assaulted him. Black had a red : mark, on his face as if he had been struck | by somebody. The Bench found accused guilty, and fined him 10s with costs 7s to be levied by distress if not paid within one week, and in default three days hard labor in Oamaru gaol.
