(ST TELfIaSAFH.) WELLINGTON. July 19. Mr Kennedy, managing director of the Grey Valley Coal Company, wrote to the Government re the dispute with the miner*, and soggeatlog thai the Government should suspend tbe royalty cf 61 per too and the Railway Commissioners allow a redaction of railage- The Government replied declining to make the concessions and suggesting that the dispute be referred to arbitration. Mr Ksooedy baa wired to the manager of the mine* at Bcunnerton to pay off the colliers on Monday; bat, Intimating that tbey may work, if the Miners' Association concede bis demand or refer to arbitration the amount of redaction to be made from hewing rate*.

The Botomahaaa arrived at 10.30 p.m. She met with heavy easterly weather, and, being light, had to stow dawn her engines to prevent them from racing. She sailed for the sooth at I a.m. MASTERTON. Joly 19. The up train to Maaterton to-day was delayed half an hoar owing to the greasy state of the rails oa the REmataka Incline. The train rao away, and a serious accident was narrowly averted. The driver was thrown off, bat not injured. TIMAKU. Jaly 20. Mr C. E Cooper, Collector of Customs here for a Cong period, died this morning. Ha bad been ailing for a long time, bat had only been laid op a week. The weather Is boisterous and wet. In conseqaenea of the delay of the Penguin lhu faneral of Mr Turnboll has been postponed tin to-morrow.
