THE LABOR REVOLT.

Work na resumed on the Tekapo and Jubilee this morning, lba owners agreelog to discharge the foremen, pending a settlemeot being arrived at. Meetings both of owner* and wharf laborers were held today. The former decided to take legal advfca aa to the action of the men in withdrawing on the grounds that they bad broken their own rales, which provide for notice being given for change*. A letter to this effect baa been sent to the Union. At • meeting of wharf laborers an animated discussion took placa on the question of the employment of stevedores. It was decided to rescind yesterday's resolution, and allow stevedores to carry oat their existing cootracs for twelve month*. In vfew of the demands put forward by the various labor bodies, the steamship owners bars decided to take a firm stand. Conferences ara being arranged with the seamen to-morrow, and the marine officers and engineers next week. Btcencd July 18, at 0 25 pra. Sydney, Joty 18. The local Trades and La'ior Cooncils have refused the application of the Australasian Society of Engineers for affiliation. On account of the aclon taken by the Shearer*' Union to prevent the shipment of wool shorn by uon-Uoion labor, the paatoraiiats and woolbrokera are taking step*} to form a anion. Mblbocbje, July 18. Ship-owners are determined not to concede the demands of the men, as they consider they are altogether u oreasonable; but they are willing to an Increase of officers. Ship-owners also decided to join th« Steamship-owner*' Association, and will sign a bond providing for the formation of a food for their mutual protection.
