Sandison, which was set down for hearing next month, has been settled out of Court, tho defendant paying LIOOO to the petitioner. Tho Dunedio Jockey Club, in replying to Messrs Stead and Rutherford re the handicapping qneatlon, say that tho suggestion that the fitueas of tho Club's officials should be reforred to a tribunal outside of tho committee responsible for bis action cannot for a moment be entertained. As to the portions of the letters referring to tho causes which Induced the irregular handicapping complained of from the writer's point of view, the secretary replies:—" This is a repetition of former Insinuations that the handlcipper and certain respectable horse owners were combined to commit a fraud, and my Committee hopo that, upon reflection, you must admit that mere insinuations of improper motives on the part of a person In an important official position, is not only unjust, but as damaging to the accuser as accused. My Committee, therefore, respectfully desire that you should either withdraw all such insinnations or formolate the charges In specific terms." In conclusion, assurance is given that the Inquiry on Monday next will be as thorongh and complete as possible, and that no owners of horses entered for the Exhibition meeting or Handicap will take any part in It.
