Wheat-ralaing upon a large eoiie and carried on as a specialty deserves condemnation in Kansas, as elsewhere ; but when the crop is grown as part of a system in alternation with corn, oats, grass and other crops it is almost certainly a profitable one to the farmer. It is one of tho few crops that give returns In actual cisb, and this cish comes at a season when ordinarily there is little upon the farm that is saleable. The indications now are that Kansas farmers will "go into wheat" extensively again the coming fall, and invite the disasters which have before followed the special cultivation, on a largn scale, of this cereal. One of the most discouraging facts to those who are striving for real and substantial progress in agriculture is the almost constant need for attacking old fallacies in practice, which it had been thought had been safely disposed of years, perhaps generations, hpfore.- Professor Sholton, of Kansas Experiment Station.
