(BY telegraph.) WELLINGTON. December 1. The annaal meeting of tha Wellington Rifle Asacciatlon was held at the Elans' Bay range yoaterday. This la the firat occasion oa which the looal men shot oat of a "gully," where at times phenomenal scores were made. At the now range, which was kindly lent by Mr Harry Crawford, there are six targets, three canvas and three iron. The situation 1b a most pleasant one, being at the head of Evanß* Bay, and a range of 1000 yards can bo obtained. Taking the shooting all through it waß poor, and competitors are load in their condemnation of tho Auokland ammunition. In one instance, out of a packet of 10, one competitor found that fully one half would not enter the breech of the rifle, and in other caBCB they entered too easily, while from some of the cartridges tho bullet was extracted, and It slipped easily down the barrel. The com. petltors say that the powder is all right, but the construction of the cartridges is faulty, and this opinion ia borne out by the fact that the cartridges have blown oat several times. Seventy competltoie were engaged shooting, and with tho exception of tho Wairarapa men were all local volunteers.
