AN INTERESTING CELEBRATION.
(Saturday's Of ago Daily Times.) Last night Mr and Mra Hallenstein gave a ball to the employees of the New Zealand Clothing Factory at the Lyceum Hail to celebrate their daughter's wedding, which took place on the 2Lat at the residence of the parents. About 200 couples were present last evening. Daring the interval Mr Maitland, the factory manager, addressed Mr and Mrs Hallenstein, expressing to them the good wishes of the employes, and hia remarks received the enthusiastic applause of tbe audience. He read a telegram from Mr and Mra de Beer asklog him to convey to all In the factory warehouse and office their thanks for the present, and wishing them a happy evening. Mr Hallenstein, in responding, said— On behalf of my wife, self, and family, I beg to convey to you our hearty thanks for the kind expression of your good wishes towards us. My daughter, before Betting out on her wedding trip, bid me say to you how pleased she was with the beautiful diamond bracelet which Miss F iulkener and Mies Kuight, on behalf of tbe female of the factory, presented to her. I have always.discountenanced any expenditure on the part of the employes to members of the firm or their [families; but when Mr Maitland, 'in asking my permission to allow this presentation to be made, told me how spontaneously it was done and entirely without his knowledge, I felt that I could not repress the generous impulse which prompted you girls. My daughter has had a great many beautiful presents, but I assure you none has pleaßed her bo much as the one you have made her. It was with tears in her eyes that she told me that she thought it was so kind, so tbonghifol, and ao sympathetic of you to think of her. I wish you ladies as happy a future as that which I hope lies in store for my daughter, whose marriage we obw celebrate. I take this opportunity o£ saying that the members of our establishment have always, as far as lay ia their power, discountenanced anything that might not be right or proper. A great many wives—good wives—have gone jout from our factory, and in looking around me and seeing so many happy faces, especially amongst thß gentlemen, I have very little doubt that more will continue to do so. lam sure you will not consider it wrong when I express a hope that you will ever continue to practice those virtues and qnalitiea which will make you good wives, so that deserving yotJDg men will court, honor, and marry you; and I hope that health and contentment may be your lot. My wife la a very unpretending woman, bat if ever any of you are in trouble, now or hereafter, you need not be afraid to approach her, for you will find her a true friend and adviser. She and I are very happy to meet yon here tonight. I again thank you for yonr good wishes and good feeling, and I hope yon will enjoy yourselves to-night.—(Ap-plause.) Dancing was afterwards resumed with spirit, all present doing their beat to promote each other's enjoyment. At an early hour in the morning the company broke up, after having spent a most enjoyable evening, which is likely to be long held ia their remembrance.
