WELLINGTON. November 30.

Owing to the price of flour having risen from L 8 to Ll2 per ton, f.0.b., the bakers of this city have raised the price of bread id per 21b loaf. Mr Twopenny, Executive Commissioner of the proposed Danedio Exhibition, has bad several interviews with Ministers, to 1 whom he baa explained the aims of the scheme, and the assistance desired from the Government. It is understood that the Government are favorably disposed towards the project. The city corporation offices were lit by electricity for the first time laat evening with satisfactory results. The representative of the Galcher light is now here, and he proposes to light a portion of L?mbton Ward on Tuesday night by means of a poweifal lamp, which has just arrived from London.

Visitors to the Wairarapa district report that the cropß are looking splendid, and promise a substantial yield. The Wesleyan district meeting, which has been sitting here during the week, brought its business to a close this morning. December 1. I Mrs Jane Brown, a resident of 8.9muera, Auckland, reports to the police that at the racrcourse yesterday she lost a roll of notes amounting to L 330, which sbe had in her dress pocket. Whether the money dropped from the pocket, or was stolen, is not known. The detectives are looking into tbe affair. Ic is understood that Mr G. V. Shannon, late of Messrs Thomson, Shannon, and Co., has been appointed expert to advise the Castoms Department as valuer or insD c c f or of soft goods. The salary is to be LBOO per annum. Tho Government have adopted the Duaedin Exhibition scheme propounded fcy Mr Twopeny, subject to the consent of Parliament, and in the understanding that every effort will be made to raise the guarantee to L 15,000. By to-day's mail they have written to the Agent-General requesting him to ask* that the British Loan collection of pic "tires be forwarded to the Danedtn Exhibition.

Parliament has been|furtherJprorogued to Feb: uai-y 6th. The Premier and Messrs Fergus and Mitchelson, accompanied by Mr Blair, Engineer, will leave ou Monday to inspect the Otago Central route.

At the itiqaest touching the death of William Sinclair, tbe Bhepherd who waß supposed to have drnrik himßelf to death at the Lse Stream Hotel, the medical evidence Bbowed that he was suffering from heart disease. Although given to drinking occasionally, he was genetally steady and sober, as was shown by the fncc of his having accumulated LISOO. The verdict was that death resnlted from heart disease, accelerated by heavy drinking. December 1.

The Premier baß telegraphed to the Law Society that there is no intention to remove the Supreme Court.

AUCKLAND. November 30,

The Board of Education received a protest to-day from the West Tamaki District School Committee against the proposed compulsory use of Dr Richardson's Temperance Lesson Books in the pnblic schools. Mr Lennox gave notice that he wonld move, at the next meeting of the Board, that tbe resolution making tbe use of the books compnlsory be rescinded.

Five boys were charged at the Police Court to-day with throwing stones in tbe Wellesley-street public school playground, to th 9 danger of the pnpils there. Three of the lads were before the Court on Wednesday on a charge of having stolen certain articles from the school building, and two of them were then birched by order of the Conrt. Of the five, three are pnpils at the Bchool, the other two haviDg left yesterday. The Bench said they had no power to order a flogging, but they discharged four of the boys on condition that they were caned by their parents or teachers. Tbe charge against tbe other lad was dismissed. Tbe New Zealand Frozsn Meat and Storage Company have failed to come to an arrangement with the Auckland bntchers on the joint issue between them, and the former have accordingly established themselves in the retail trade by purchasing tbe butchering bnsineßS of Wallis and Coates.

HOKOTKA. November 30.

Mr David Cnrie, proprietor of the H->kitika Gnardian, waa to-day served with a writ for libel at tbe suit of Messrs Pollock and Bevan, a local firm of auctioneers. Tbe case will come on at tbe March sitting of the Supreme Court before tbe judge, without a jury. It is understood that Mr C. Janion, proprietor and publisher of the Kumara paper, will also be served similarly. The bakers held a meeting to consider the advisability of raising the price of bread from 61 to 7d, but co decision was arrived at. One master baker, holding a large stock, is Btill selling at 53. It is understood that, in view of the increased price of produce, farmers will largely increase tbe area of cropping for potatoes. The weather continues cold and wet.

INVERCARG ILL. November 30.

The Bluff Harbor Board have decided to employ their tug in towing vessels into the port of Invercargill, which is looked upon as a rival port. An amendment to the effect that tbe solicitor's opinion be obtained on the question whether the Board can legally Bend the tug and pilot staff from Bluff to be engaged in towage services ia another harbor, was negatived. Tbe vessel bas for some years carried mails, freight, and passengers to Stewart Island, being a day away from port on each occasion.

The weather cleared for a few hoars, bat is again as Inclement aa ever. There la great excitement in the oat market, 3) lOd being given for fair samples. Bayers are running after holders, which is a novel experience for farmers. Contracts for next crop at 2s 6d are said to havo been nude.

Arrived Canterbury, ship. Captain M'Millan, after a passage of 92 days from London. TIMARU. December 1, The Borough Council last night had a long interview with Mr Ford, agent for Eiwell Parker, re the electric light Mr Ford showed that the present water snpply conld not be relied npon to furnish power sofficient for an electric light motor, and said he was not prepared at present to treat for steam power. The Council are to confer further with him on Monday. Some Councillors believe that the water supply can be sufficiently increased. j
