THE WELLINGTON-MANAWATU RAILWAY.
(by teleokaph.) I Weiiisotox, March 27. The annual report of the WellingtonManawata Railway Compnny shows that the gross proceeds of 28,807 acre 3 of land sold amount to L 57,294 7a Id, and there still remains in the hands of the Company an area of 210,691 acres for future sale. In addition the Company has still to receive from Government in fulfilment of their contract land to the value of L 29.805. The gross proceeds of the traffic during the year amount to 1.46,590 6s 10d. A pleasing feature of tho latter is that the returns for the 13 weeks, from the lit December, 1887, to the 29 & February, in comparison with the corresponding period of the preceding year, show an increase of L 219 per week. Although not shown on the balasca-sheet, the workiog account for the year shows a prjflt of about L 17,000 towards the payment of debentures and interest. The general results of the year's operations are of a highly satisfactory nature.
