TEANERAKI SCHOOL PICNIC.

Friday last witnessed one of those enjoyable gatherings so delightful to children and almost equally pleasing and beneficial to adults as serving to rub off some of the rust that domestic cares and business troubles engender. At an early hour the children of Teanerakl were making preparations for their day's pleasure. The gathering took place in a paddock kindly placed at the disposal of' the Committee by Mr Meek. Hera running, jumping, skipping,, and. various other games were indulged in, the prize-money paid away amounting to a respectable sum. After the prizes had been distributed, Mr Meek, on behalf of the scholars presented Miss J. Christie, who is leaving the school to take up an appointment in the Waikari School, with a gold locket, as a parting gift. Miss Christie suitably replied, thanking the donors for their handsome present, which she accepted with very great pleasure, as it was indicative of the harmony that had existed between herself and her pupils. An excellent luncheon, ; was provided by the residents, and to this full .justice was done. At the invitation of Mr and Mrs Meek, an adjournment was made towards evening to their house, where dancing was entered npon, and kept up for some hours to music supplied by Messrs Anderson, Henderson, and Bruce. As testifying their good Reeling for the enjoyment they had been afforded, the company gave three cheers for Mr and Mrs Meek, all agreeing that the gathering had been one of the most pleasing ever held in the district.
