Messrs Reid, Maclean, and Co. report for the week ending December 28th, as follow!: Fat Cattle.—The number forward to-day, via., 94 head, although much below the usual week's requirements of the trade, following bat overstocked market, proved sufficient for immediate wants, and, although compstitioa was a shade brisker, prices cannot be reported higher than late values. Best bullocks brought from 16 15s to L 9 2i 6d ; others, L 4 to L 6 10s; cows, L 3 10s to 1.6 7 ,6 - » , i Fat Sheep.—Only BS4 were offered at auction to-day, and although butchers' requirements were light, still the supply being so unusually small it did not prove sumcieut .fat the demand. Throughout the sale brisker competition was noticeable, and ' signer prices by la to Is 6d per head were realised to-day than for some weeks back. Store Cattle.—ln sympathy with the low values ruling for beef, prices obtainable for stores are necessarily low but still fair values can always be got at auction for well grown bullocks in forward condition. Store Sheep.—We have still a number of inquiries for young croisbreds and we could , readily place lines of this description. Our sales for the month have been 4500 2-tooth crossbred ewes and wethers at satisfactory prices* Sheepskins.—We submitted a small catalogue on Tuesday (owing to the holidays several lota of which we had advice not arriving in time) and competition experienced was brisk; sli.htly higher prices ruling all round. Country dry crossbreda ■ It 3d to 4a 2d; do merinos Is 2d to 4s sd; pelts 2d to lid; butcher's green do 7d to 12d; green crossbreda 3i 6d to 5s 6d r do do merino 3s to 4s 2d; lambskins Is 4d to Is lid. Babbitaking.—There are really no consignments of. good winter skins coming "'forward now. Inferior lota in small parcels continue to reach this market from day to day, and are readily saleable at fair prices. Hides.—A steady demand for local consumption continues to exist, and late rates an well maintained. Our quotations are as follow-.—lnferior and buLs', lsd to 2d; light, 2Jd to 2Jd; medium, 3d to 3Jd; heavy, 3jd to 3Jd per lb. Tallow.—There is no change to report in the tone of the market, the demand being good and prices unaltered. All consignments «fmi>«g to hand continue to be taken up by local manufacturers at prices which leave no margin for shipment. Quotations are— Inferior, 10s to 14s; medium, 14s 6i to 16s 6d; prime mutton, 17s to 18s; rough fat (inferior), 6a to 7s 6d ; medium, 8s to 103 ; best can], 10s 6d to lis. Wheat.—Business during the past week has been exceedingly quiet, the holidays, in a certain sense, having been the causa of this. A few small sales have been made at equal to late quoted values which are as follows : Prime velvet and Tuscan 3s 9d to 3a 10d; medium.to good 3s 5d to 3s 8d; inferior and fowl wheat 2s 6d to 3s 4d. Cats.—Ko sales of importance have been -made daring the week and we do not look .for much being done until after the holidays.
