MOERAKI SCHOOLS.
The annual picnic and distribution of prizes in connection with the Moerakl School took place' on Friday afternoon last, and proved most enjoyable, not only to tho ohlldren, but to thoßo who added to the pleasures of the occasion by their presence and assistance In carrying out the proceedings. Mr J. Culling occupied the chair, and, after a few appropriate remarks, distributed the prises provided by the Committee. These consisted of •> fine collection of handsome books, and comprised gifts for the whole of the ex* pectant youngsters. In addition to theso prizes were also given by the teaoher for those who acquitted themselves best at the inspector's examination, and a speolal prize was given by Mr Simmons for the boy who had shown the greatest kindness and consideration for the girls during the year. The delloate point was settled by the girls, and great amusement was occasioned by the affair. Some singing by the children followed, and then they were regaled with buns and sweets. A number of sports were improvised, and so the time passed merrily until the hour arrived for bringing the gathering to a close, when all went home well pleased with the after* noon's proceedings.
