The following la the report for the week frying Friday, 21st inafc : From a business point of view, it may bo ■aid that the post week, as far aa grain and produce is concerned, has been about the most uneventful one experienced for many year* at this particu'ar season. Ihe langnid tone of the market may bo fairly put down to the whole energy of the producers being diverted from legitimate business to the universal effort put forth to bring the Government to • sense of the injustice i- has thought fit to Indnlge in at the expense of the farmers, and until something definite has been decided on by the Executive, we may look forward to a period of extreme depression in the grain trade* It is to be hoped that the pressure of public opinion will have due weight, and that we shall be in a position to report more favorably next week. In the meantime buyers, being fully determined that they, at any rate, will not contribute say portion of the tax, are offering such prices aa will clear them of the same. Quotations are merely nominal, and may be taken as follow Wheat.—3s Gd f.o.b. for best samples of Tuscan; other sorts, 3s 4d f.o.b. Oats.—Best millng, 2s Id to 2s 2d f.o.b. ; short feed, 2s f.o.b. Barley.—A-good demand for prime malting at 4s; second-class, 3s 6d to 3s 9d in Christchurch. . Grass Seed.—Bye, 33 to 3s 6d, with fair inquiry for the better clas3 in parcels fit for shipment; cocksfoot, to f.o.b. at Lyttelton, buyer 3 showing little disposition to operate at the latter figure. Butter and Ch'ese.—A firm market for the former at 9d to 9£d. Very little business done in the latter, which is dull of sale at 3Jdto4§d. ABSTRACT OF S.VI/FS Messrs Fleming and Hedley will sel', at M"Kay's Yards, about the end of March — Sheep. Also, at nme place, on Thursday, 3rd April—Young Snrep.
